Post subject: | How to instal brake fail light. |
Hi All I want to install a handbrake warning light and a brake fail light on my 77 resto. I think I should be okay with the handbrake light install (thanks to info from the forum) but I'm a bit unsure how to go about wiring up the brake fail light. Any help would be muchly appreciated. Thanks Eiles |

The factory used a relay that would switch the earth when the starter motor was engaged as well as the master cylinder pressure differential switch. Here is a drawing I did when I recommissioned my dash lights last year. Attachment: Leyland Dash Lamp Brake Fail Circuit.jpg Edit - Updated to a more user friendly copy. |

Thanks gtogreen. The car didn't come with these extra bits but I want to install them as functional upgrades. Eiles |

I wouldn't be using the scotch locks like the factory did. Also the relay is a bit of an overkill just to check the dash bulb is not blown. Lots of things to go wrong and very messy under the bonnet. You could just run a push button switch to earth for the bulb check. |

I don't think the driver needs a light to tell him or her that the brakes have failed ![]() just make sure the horn works , so you can advise others ![]() PS please have insurance ![]() |

Above circuit is correct but please DON'T USE SCOTCH LOCKS. That was one of the most Unprofessional thing Leyland Australia ever did on Minis. |
