Did all clubby's have the spacer on between
the top of the subframe tower and the body?
With the spacer my frame does not line up
at the front but would without it. I have a
78 clubby with a twin bolt subframe. TIA

Should have the spacers on.
If the front panel has ever been replaced with a new UK one (Clubby had a rubber mount subby over there), not only do you get this height problem but also a gap at the front. Solution is to fit 2 front UK teardrop rubber mounts.
(Edit) I found this on a Clubby van we owned.

How much gap should there be between subframe and firewall above the steering rack? mine is 0.5 mm max should it be more?

if it's the bit I'm thinking of (looking down the back of the motor towards the floor), then no, it should only be a small gap... mine catches washers when they drop down there
