Post subject:  Thermostat Housing - which one

Hi,
I'm putting together my 1962 850 engine and I'm not sure which is the correct thermostat housing to use. The one that came with the engine was considerably lower and squatter compared to another that came in a box of spares. They are both in reasonable shape, but if one is correct for an early 850, then that is the one that I'll put back on the motor.
Cheers,
James

I have seen some early 850's with the flat thermostat housing but the top hose kinks due to the engine height difference.

The angled housing is better suited to the 850 engine.

My 61 850 had the flat one when bought in 1964.

Thanks for the info, I'll run with the flatter one.

The high domed one came out sometime after 1963. AFAI remember all Morris 850s and Cooper 997 here had a flat one, whether it is that particular flat one I'm not sure, but I think it is. :)
