So, I've recently put all new rubber cones in my clubman and got it on the road properly for the first time. A few road tests have brought to light that when cornering "enthusiastically" or when I have someone in the back (no matter how small) the suspension seems to drop quite a lot and cause scrubbing in the rear arches. The gap between the top of the tyres and the arches is at least an inch when stationary. Is the scrubbing just a result of the suspension settling in and being extra soft because of that and how new it is? If not, how do I go about tackling the issue without having to raise the height too much. I don't exactly want a "raked" look. Thanks in advance |

Yes, the new cones will be softer at the beginning of the travel and allow more body roll. I had a similar problem with mine and they settled approx 2cm and firmed up a little. I've raised mine up to prevent the scrubbing and give a decent amount of travel. Mine now has just over 2" between the tyres and body. If you don't want a raked look the fix is simple - raise up both ends  . You'll have to make a compromise between ride height and comfort/scrubbing.. |

Hi mini_man_90 My Morris Mini van was the same with new rubber cones when they started to settle in-kept scrubbing in the rear when going over bumps or with a light load in the back. I have HiLos so i just raised the rear up a little more to compensate. I didn't need to raise it too much and haven't had the problem since (even with a heavy load in the back). Cheers Dave |

Thanks guys. Might have to raise the rear a little to compensate. The fronts are maxed out. Hi Los are wound right up and have new cones in and it's sitting roughly level with the rear at the moment. Hence my concern for the raked look. |

I have 2 more questions on this topic 1) if I want to raise the ride height slightly at the front and I already have new red dot rubber cones and my hi-lo trumpets are wound right up... what options do I have? 2)as an alternative to raising the front more, but also related to the scrubbing problem in the rear, the distance between tyre and rear arch is 3 fingers (didn't have a tape or ruler). Will stiffer / adjustable shocks help with minimising the suspensions ability to travel up that far and cause scrubbing? I currently have brand new Munro shocks installed that haven't been driven on in 15-20 years until a month ago |

Correction to point no#1 I only installed replacement genuine standard rubber cones from minispares. Could road/ rally/ red dot cones make enough of a difference for what I'm chasing? |

I am surprised that you can't get enough height. I had old cones on the front that had sagged about 30% in height and i could still raise the front to get 3 fingers between the tyre and guard. |

I'm running 13 inch wheels. So I'm guessing my overall wheel and tyre diameter is larger than it would be if I had 10s if that's any comparison. I know that 13s will cause scrubbing in the front unless set up correctly, but I'm more just chasing a bit more height at the moment |

All i can suggest is to add a shim / washer between the knuckle joint and hilo. With the 13's you might have to look at cutting the arches if you cannot get enough height. |
