Hi does anyone have any photos of gearbox gears where they mesh with each other as in what's good what's bad and what's acceptable or serviceable or is there a web site where there is a new gear next to an old or worn as a comparison, mainly what to look for on the synchromesh side of things as all my actual gears look ok Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you are talking 4 synchro boxes, it's usually not gear tooth wear that is a problem, but drive dog wear where the synchro hub's sleeve engages the dogs on the gear. 2nd gear particularly. With worn synchros, the ends of the dogs round off, this shortens the dogs giving less engagement length between the two. Wear can then cause jumping out of gear. In a 3 synchro box, the above is true, but also the 1st gear end of the cluster gear is prone to wear, check the faces of the teeth for wear through the hardening. Also chipping of these teeth where the 1st gear ring slides into mesh. |

I've got one of my gearboxes sitting at work & if I remember tomorrow I'll take a couple of photos to help demonstrate what a worn gearset looks like. Brad |

I pulled it down as i had an engine problem and I'm rebuilding the motor, so cleaning out the gearbox and gears to make sure there is no metal left behind and thought i would rebuild the box while i was at it. |

Thanks for the pics, When new, the front face of all dogs is vertical and sharp, not laid back as in the pics. So the engagement length is greater. |
