I am getting ready to replace my front apron and have the subframe remounted for alignment. My previous apron had spacers between it and the subframe, though they look homemade.

Are spacers/packing of any kind required between the apron and the subframe? I can't find any reference to the actual mounting of the apron in my manual :?

Are you talking about round nosed or clubman minis?
I only know about round nose. These don't normally have any packing where the 2 bolts fit at the front of the subframe and emerge in the 2 cutout holes in the beaver panel on either side of the number plate bracket. The subframe is normally a close fit at these points, however, I think I have read somewhere that there can be spacers fitted "where necessary".
I have done this job in the past and everything lined up well - so you can be lucky.

Post '75 (ish) ENGLISH minis had a spacer (rubber mount), so if you have a new replacement apron it'll have a gap there for the spacer - you can buy shiny aluminium ones.

Can't tell you why your old apron had spacers, it might have already been replaced once

If it there is a gap between apron and sub frame you need to pack it, or when bolts are tightened it will pull it back, this makes the wheel arch bow out , and there is no way you,ll get it back utill spacer is fitted

Ok, thanks guys. I will get the panels squared and see if it needs any spacers. Putting a whole front end on seems like a pain in the rear....
