Post subject:  Changing colour
I currently have a 1962 Morris Mini 850 in Saxony Green which is currently getting restored. I am currently into paint stage with the mini. Just wondering is it worth it to change the colour of the car. I do like the Saxony Green but I always wanted a Mini in red, British green or blue with the white roof.

I have been told by a few different sources that I should keep the original colour as it would retain its value and authenticity better.

Personal choice bud..do to suit yourself..yes its nice to keep original colour but for me paint it the colour you want too..makes it a part of you....my Clubman was purple originally but theres no way Ill be painting it that so Im going for either red or gambier turquoise.all the officiannados will poo poo a colour change but its your car..change to a colour that you want.

I agree your car and cheque book. One thing you could do is paint it in mini factory colour eg red for the right era
That way you get the best of both worlds.

You should buy my british racing green cooper no need to change the colour

My advice is that if you like the colour enough to have it refreshed...then go ahead :!: There are 4 million (well close to) White over BRG, White over Blue and White over Reds out there :D

What everyone else says, paint the mini whatever colour you want! If you're keeping it as an investment then fair enough but if theres a colour you love, go with that. My 1275LS was hi ho silver originally. Basically grey by todays standards. Metallic was apparently near non existent in the 70s...regardless, i decided, seeing as i want to modernise my mini and im not making it showroom spec, im making it my dream daily mini, i decided id paint it a colour with a little more wow factor. I kept with tradition as a homage as to what it originally is but ive gone with galaxy grey. A very flecky silver in the sunlight and near black in the dark. I love it and seeing as my favourite colour is green, ive added a bit of ice green flake into the clear coat.

You want opinions so here is mine. Keep the original colour because it is one of the nicest colours they had and eventually you or someone else will want it back to original. You WILL be asked "is that the original colour?" and you can say "Yes!". OR you can say "NO, I painted it red". I know which answer I would rather give for a car that is over 50 years old. I'm not knocking anyone that doesn't have an original coloured mini, I am just giving you my opinion. For the cost of a good paint job on a mini these days you could almost buy a second mini in the red you want! Good luck with your decision and enjoy your mini.

I considered changing mine, but chose not to seeing as there aren't many mini's that aren't moke's in Squadron Blue, after seeing it in different lighting conditions I am amazed at how many different colours my car can be. In the end its your choice, your car and your money.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with my project, but came to the conclusion that i should just do whatever i want. I do not intend on selling mine so its not really an investment for me, its something that i want to enjoy so im painting it gray and black! adventurous.... i know

Original paint on this 850 would be baked enamel. I found it hard to remove with stripper, it is tuff stuff.
