Post subject: | BMC Birch Grey Paint Formula |
Hi all, another one of those paint formula posts... Has anyone ever had the Australian ‘Birch Grey’ mixed up? It is a very light grey, with a hint of green. Went to a local auto place that we’ve had success with in the past for BMC colours, however I struck the young guy and we found out the hard way that he mixed it to “the Australian Standard” Birch Grey, not BMC Birch Grey, and it’s pink! May go back for a third time when the boss is there to see if they can actually do the BMC colour, but thought I’d ask here in the meantime. Has anyone sourced a modern formula? Attachment: pinkbirchgrey.jpg The colour is right down the bottom on this page from winabbey: winabbey wrote: ![]() Thanks, Evan |

Unless someone has a modern formula to match the best way is to take something like your numberplate flap to a auto paint supplier that can scan the colour. This then gives them a starting point formula for the colour that can then be adjusted by eye by the painter for a perfect match. Trying to use a 45year old formula won't work, the tints today are different. |

That'll be the next step if no luck with a modern formula, just have to find a reliable place to do it ![]() |

Glasurit has the formula for Birch Grey they mixed it for me in the past. I'd be surprised if PPG doesn't have the formula as well as they have modern formulas for most of the 60's BMC colours. |

Where are th colour charts posted? I'm looking for the chart with the tint formula for a 1968 BMC colour - Dusk Blue. Apparently it was the formula used for a Renault colour used on the early R8 Gordini's known as Moyen Blue. Can someone point me in the right direction please. KB |
