The body seam cover strips on my car appeared to have been brazed top and bottom to the body during manufacture. I am about to refit the same however I have paid considerable attention to painting the seam area prior to fitting in order to reduce the risk of rust in the future and therefore I am very reluctant to introduce heat at this stage. Has anyone come up with another method of attaching the strips other than brazing? When fitting, what is the correct sequence? Do you fit the clips to the strip and then fit the strip to the body or the other way round? |

In the case of my recent restoration, the replacement seam cover was brazed and then lead loaded to provide a moisture proof seal. As for the correct sequence, I'd venture that the clips go onto the seam first, and the seam cover then goes over the clips. |

+1 on the sikaflx. With a bit of imagination you can make the ends look brazed. |

Bearing in mind that it is essentially sticking a painted surface to another painted surface which Sikaflex should be used? A local supplier of Sikaflex products claimed that it would get poor adhesion as it is only as strong as the adhesion of the paint but I suspect anything would be better than those clips which will only generate rust as soon as the car gets wet |

I used 2 clips per strip, filled the strips with white Sikaflex 291 and pushed them on. Then wiped off the excess. At least now they won't rust at the clips... |
