Hello.
I have the head off my Metro Turbo engine, and am intrigued by the mark shown in the photo. The engine has been running well, and has only been using the "usual" amount of oil. Any ideas?

is it rust - like from a porous pinhole coming from that water gallery. Kinda looks like it's washing from one point

Yeah I was going to ask if it has been bored out and to what size?

DrMini has stated several times about A+ blocks and the problems with the bores shifting when being cast. As Simon says, looks like a pin hole from the water gallery.

What is the alloy looking spec across the piston crowns and upper bore?

It is above the ring travel, so probably not due to a busted ring or anything. Looks strange...

Thanks everyone. Now that Simon has mentioned it, I think he is right - porousity in the block from the nearby water jacket. It's never been apart, so never been honed or bored out. When it finally does get pulled apart, I will mention it to the engine builder - boring out may of course make it worse. Hopefully that person is Graham Russell.... Cheers.

if that's what it is, then it'll need a sleeve to fix it properly...

if I was you I'd be trying really hard not to attack it with a piece of emery paper to see what's really under there, then I'd poke at it with a scribe until it made a hole in the bore, then I'd pull the engine out.... then I'd wish I'd just pretended I'd never noticed it in the first place
