Just looking at this ad on fleabay...Can anyone date this?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MORRIS-MINI- ... XQVs1RmuY9

What tyres do you think they are? They are definitely not Dunlop SP41 Aquajets. Does anyone recall what tyres were on 66 models as delivered?

BLMC Service Liaison Summaries relating to Police specification tyres are as follows:

SLS 132 (1st Nov 1967) - Olympic GT radial ply tyres

SLS 212 (6th Oct 1970) - Dunlop Sports Radial Aquajet

SLS 4/71 (1st Nov 1971) - Clubman GT - Goodyear Sports Radials. "It has been reported that handling problems have occurred with Dunlop Aquajets which were previously used on Police Cooper S vehicles."

Here is a colour photo if it helps. I can't see the slam panel brace to date it. It has early pleats in the back seat.
Canberra Police got 3 in November 1965 not sure if this was one of them.

WOW, thanks GTO, you must have an amazing collection of providence there... wouldn't happen to have a set of Olympics kicking around??

I guess the closest "look" to the Olympics these days are the 145 Falkens.

I wonder what the round sticker is on the left hand side of the rear screen.. Aust. made?? Thought they were placed on the right?

No idea what that sticker is.

Here is a photo of one of the ACT late 65 cars. Might be the same one.

Aquajets give a period look.

All the originals I have seen have been bottom left but anything is possible.

from the vague memory I have of the very worn out SP41 I have in my garage, it looks very similar in the fine wiggling of the tread pattern...

Bought new Cooper S in 1966 ,Toga white burgundy roof. Came with SP_41 dunlops , hacked a hole in firewall for 45 weber, Love to know if it,s still around, traded in on HK gts monaro in 68, from memory S cost 1140 pounds, the monaro was $3240 drive away. still have receipt for monaro ,but not for mini, I,d like still have both, but.

There were very few radials in 1966. Dunlop Aquajets were only available after about 1969, when most other brands had mini tyres too.

It's been suggested that the tyres were perhaps Olympic G8's ?

All the brochures and road tests say they came out with 145x10 Radial Ply tyres with tubes from the very first S.
The mention of the Dunlop SP41 brand appears from the Jan and Feb 1966 road tests.

My money is on the Olympic GT so far. There is a distinct dual zig-zag between the sidewall and tread that I can see when zoomed in on the colour photo. There is a Goodyear G8 but is not a Radial Ply.

SP41s Fitted to a 1966 Road test. I doubt BMC would have changed tyres for a road test.

Sir Jack used to advertise Goodyear G800 radials and later NCTs

G800s drew a lot of criticism in the day....

The G8 crossplies were a good basic tyre with predictable road holding....

GT Radials were great on Minis, back in the 60s I had them on my 850/pretend Cooper S before the cops did. I drove an S on Aquajets once. No comparison, they howled and didn't hang on.

I wasn't saying that Ss didn't have radials. I remember that was one of their major features; I meant there were few to choose from.
...And Aquajets were not as good as the hype at the time.
