Post subject:  best front dampers for Hydro

I have 20 year old "Gabriel Red Rider" dampers on the front of my hydro car and I reckon it's time I chucked them...

I don't think adjustables will do me any good, I doubt I can adjust them better than a set of quality ones are set up off the shelf

I'm leaning towards these - https://minispares.com/product/classic/552018.aspx

or maybe these - https://minispares.com/product/classic/19-221694.aspx

I'd love some of these - https://minispares.com/product/classic/B36-0370.aspx but don't think I'd notice the difference for the outlay

opinions?

Std KYBs. Not gas and not adjustable. I put a set on a mate's hydro Clubby recently, they work fine. Well made (Japanese).
Cheap from Karcraft. :)

So how do you fit these to hydro suspension

Bilstein or KYB. I ditched the SPAX adjustable for the Bilstein, best modification/ change l made. 20 point adjustable shocks gives the owner to many options to stuff it up, and they were way to firm even at the softest setting. I bought the Bilstein performance shock when the exchange rate was decent, the great thing is they can be rebuilt in Australia if required.

I have GAZ adjustables, 10 clicks from softest setting is perfect for me

I have the KYB gas-a-just ones on my dry car and they work very well.

You don't need to add a lot of damping with hydro, all you are doing is making up for the deterioration of the valving in the 50 year old displacers. :)
My 20 year old Pedders red dampers are still working fine, when they go kaput I will fit KYBs.

I reckon you go the Adjustable GAZ, I have the on scrapper and they were a godsend when i was running hydro. Being able to adjust them hard for tarmac and back again for dirt motorkhanas made a huge difference.

Cheers

Bit of a late contribution - I've had SPAX on a hydro car, adjustability is good, but I don't think the quality of the SPAX stuff is super great.

I might try the front shock setup
So has anyone got a pair of top shock mounts to sell

put a wanted ad - they're fitted to all dry suspension cars

I think there is a how-to for it, but basically you just need to buy an 8mm unbrako cap head bolt to go through the top arm

You can get them new at most mini shops.

Or as a kit with some shocks to convert your hydro car.
