Post subject: | VHT Heat Proof Paint. |
Purchased a can of VHT heat proof paint (1090 C) to do my extractors, the car is in bits and will not be going for some time. Was not aware of the need to cure at the time of buying the paint and nothing was said when asking about the product. If I paint the extractors and do not cure them as they will not fit in the oven and to sit with a heat gun for one hour at 200C seems a waste of time and electricity, what may happen, will they stay ok until I get the motor going (many months) or am I wasting my time painting them now. Will the VHT paint cure by itself over a long period of time without the heat being applied? Graham |

I did a set in the oven a few months ago and they still needed more heat treatment to fully cure. The rest of the exhaust and muffler were also painted but I lightly cured them with a heat gun for 15 mins. Then i followed the run-in procedure after the car was back together. Maybe 3 months later. |

Have you read the can? It says you can do it on the car by running it for 20 minutes then cooling then another 20 then cooling or something like that. It won't matter if it sits in the shed for ages before curing properly. I did it that way and it was fine. |

fun fact, the exhaust flowing through my extractors at highway speeds sits at around 550°C ![]() |

I did mine with the 400C heat gun, until they stopped smoking. Probably took 15 mins. |
