Hi all. Finally cracked the top of the engine and found a set of rockers that appear are not factory (to me). First are the ones in my 77 clubby, second are what i think are factory (ex Google images). Are mine factory or aftermarket, and if so would there be any markings to let me know what they are? Both are standard. The top ones are sintered rockers used on later engines and the bottom are pressed steel used on earlier engines. |

Is the small hole in the top of the sintered ones standard - the four rockers on the right in the first photo? I have not seen them with this hole before, but then I live a sheltered life. |

The pressed steel ones have slight mechanical advantage of 0.07:1 ratio so yes the pressed steel ones are "better" only if both are equal in wear. Move each rocker and post along the shaft to see if there are any grooves worn into the shaft. Wobble the rockers against the shafts to see how much wear the bushes have in each rocker. If nice and tight and shafts are smooth then they should be OK. Next check the pad surfaces and each adjust ball. Pads need to be uniform smooth and balls nice and round not oval. You "might" get like 1hp advantage (if that) by swapping them over  If you have a set lying around then go for it, why not? If you're thinking of buying a set then forget it, not worth the money. |

The pressed metal rockers were fitted from early through to DeLuxe and mini K and are considered to be good for most uses; i had sintered ones on a long motor I bought from Mini King about 1980 - low compression 1275 (ex-moke?). The sintered ones are still going strong on that motor and show little sign of wear - either to the rocker or the valve stems. Being very wide, they don't need to be critically lined-up on the rocker shaft with their valve stem. The pressed metal ones may need a reface occasionally. Like IndigoBlueCooperS, I've lived in the same shelter and have never seen holes in the sintered ones. Probably a "Vizard Modification"! Use the sintered ones with confidence. They look clunky but work really well. |

Sintered ones do wear, I have seen one worn that bad it broke through underneath and was lying in the rocker cover.  These ones don't have bushes so if worn, you bin them. |
