Driving the 850 last night and all was going well until the light on the end of the indicator stalk went out
All the external indicators still work and the blinker can still ticks away nicely.
I removed today the bulb in the stalk and it works fine.
Got my meter out and I have voltage at the terminal that the bulb seats against in the stalk.
The outside that the bulb screws into seems to be earthed OK.

Any ideas what else I should check

A dirty connection at the stalks plug.

If you have power to the centre of the socket and the bulb is OK it can only be faulty earth to the socket, or the bulb is not making a good connection to the tip or the earthed outside section, surely? Have you used your meter to bridge the centre contacter and the screw section of the bulb holder?

Reconnected my volt meter and have power to the centre terminal of the socket when the blinker arm is on as it should.
The outside of the bulb socket is earthed and tested with my multimeter.
So all should work fine right, No
I even added some solder to the end of the centre of the bulb just in case. Screwed it in and it even has a witness mark to show where it was contacting

Still nothing

So with one probe of the multimeter on the centre contact and the other on the screw section do the volts oscillate?

Electrics can be a pain. Even though you have 12v to the centre terminal the voltage may drop off when a load is applied. A bad or dirty connection can let voltage through but drop off under load. Test your centre terminal with a test light instead of a multimeter and use a different earth.
Also test your bulb earth with a test light but select another power source.
Have you tested the bulb on a battery?

I have tested the bulb directly to a battery and it works OK.
I'll try the other options you suggested.

OK, tried a test light in the centre terminal to another earth. Nothing.
Tested the Bulb earth to a power supply with a test light and this worked well.

So based on this it must be the supply to the bulb. More testing required.

I have seen this hundreds of times. Usually on trailer wiring. I would start at the male and female pins at the stalk plug. Clean them up with sandpaper and spray with WD40.

Another test you can try
bare the end of a piece of wire and wrap it around the blinker stalk ,
attach the other end to a good earth and see if it works like this
if so let me know . the metal stalk supplies the earth to the globe

If you have a 3 pin flasher can then the P terminal is the power feed to the green indicator light. Use your test light directly on the P terminal. It should be a (Light green) or (Light green/ purple) wire.

If all that fails then the flasher can may need repairing or replacing.
The 3 pin flasher can has a B or X terminal (12V in) and L terminal (12V out) - these are working fine.
The power for the P terminal may have corroded internally.

I connected 12V to the P inlet to the harness where the flasher can plugs in and while the Greek light illuminated, it was reasonably dull (a bit like me with electrickery).
I then connected the same 12V supply to the bullet terminal on the stalk harness and got a strong light.
So I must have a high resistance between the bullet connector and the flasher can connector.
The flasher can connector has three cables in a sheath that runs up through the fire wall with all the other cables and plugs into the harness near the regulator (well, where it used to be before the alternator conversion).
Thinking now, I also supplied 12V to the green wire in the main harness and the indicated light was also strong, so it must be either the connection from the flasher harness to the main harness or the connection at the flasher can or the flasher harness cable itself.

Amazing how much clarity you get when you write things down.

Had the same issue on my 850, was the flasher can. Every now and then I also find that the bulb unscrews itself so i just have to remove the green lens and screw it in again.

Did few more tests tonight but nothing conclusive.
Every time I used a 12V supply the light shone but wouldn't work via the flasher.
Jumped a wire from the X terminal to the P terminal where the flasher plugs in and the little grin light shone brightly.
Will get a new flasher can tomorrow
