Hi, can anyone share their experience or tell me what the deal is with changing the engine # of a registered mini - due to motor rebuild and also changing colour - is the process hard/difficult etc? Thanks |

I filled in the paperwork and sent it in and got the registration details back a few weeks later. It was surprisingly easy. It was swapping the same sized engine. If going bigger it may be a different story. For memory it asked all details about the car asking if brakes had been modified or if there where any other mods, etc. I had to change the details for an unregistered car which caused them some questions but to get historic registration the reg forms must be the same as the car. I didn't want to register the car then go to historic registration. For memory I think I had to submit details without / as there system is only for alphanumeric. Surprisingly easy for my situation. |

I was looking into this about 6 months ago. The form to use is here. https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/transport- ... ifications . Because my car was a 1977 and had a larger engine fitted so it got very complicated. I did not go ahead with the process. |

Yes, going bigger can be an issue but I stayed the same therefore brakes remain the same. If going from 1100 to 1275 by putting disc brakes on will meet the criteria (as long as they are brakes intended for a mini). I was told this doesn't need pits/ID check but that was a few years ago. GTO that is the form I used. |

I was told that the paperwork went to 2 different areas. One is submitted prior to any mods being undertaken and looks at the increase in power and capacity and brakes etc and they will make a judgement that you can or can't install the larger engine. Then it needed to go over the pits and check all the mods were carried out as per the paperwork then have a noise and pollution test. This may be because it was a 1977 model and they need to make sure the ADR's are still complied with. The car had been getting around like this for 20 years prior to my owning it and none of this had been done. Just an engine number(same capacity) and colour change is simple and would only take 5 mins. |

I did mine a few years back. Changed from 998 to 1275, and fitted the Cooper S disk brakes. As per the following. "If the engine in your vehicle has been changed with no modification and is an available option or standard specification for your vehicle make, model and year, complete a MR7 Application to Alter vehicle or trailer details 191.6 KB form and submit it to Service SA for approval. " Paperwork went through without any issues or inspections. |
