My local Beaur...... can no longer change a 10" tyre because they broke their adjustable machine and the new one doesn't do 10". I am going up the road to another one that can but makes me wonder how many more things are going to be hard to do in the future! By the way, just to confirm, do we use tubes or not on standard rims? I don't think I do but tyre bloke said it is a rim that needs a tube even though tyre says tubeless. I have had this discussion before and cant remember. That is standard LP883 rims with Yoko A008's. Cheers. |

Mini steel wheels don't have "safety beads" (like just about all wheels for old cars) so some shops don't want to fit them without tubes due to OHS and liability reasons. Fitting tubes to tubeless tyres can mean the rough inner surface of the tyre rubs through the tube and all the air escapes. I've personally had nothing but trouble with inner tubes, and valves worked much better. |

The last set of 10inch rims I dropped off they needed to keep them overnight so someone could stay back late and re-configure the machine. |

I have just bought 8 "Olympic" inner tubes from a neighbour. I don't really want them but felt obliged as he was cleaning out an old workshop. They must be a fair age - although probably good rubber - once. |

Flute - I see you made a comment about tubes in this old thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65872 Antique tyres sell Dunlop Aquajets in 10" so a call to them may get a good answer - http://www.antiquetyres.com.au/ |

In this thread is the BMC Engineering drawing that clearly specifies tubeless tyres for the Cooper S (YDO6) which has LP883 rims. Maybe show a copy of that document to the tyre fitter. viewtopic.php?f=49&t=93320 |

It would be good to get a statement in writing from someone like the Tyre and Rim Association and/or Dunlop endorsing the fitting of tubeless tyres to original factory rims without the need for a tube. Presenting a copy to a tyre fitter might convince them to comply and fit tyres without a tube when asked. |

Tyre fitters in USA commonly break 10" tyre beads by trying to fit them over the wide bead seat, not the narrow one. I agree Mick, who is training these people? |

Haha! I like the old phart comment! Thanks Winnabey, I am getting one of those antique tyres Aquajets to stick on an LP883 that I am getting restored and will stick it in the boot for display and sit a useable A008 on another LP883 on top of the boot board for general use. I will keep a copy of the engineering drawings to show them next time. Thanks for the link, I knew there was one somewhere. Same place that now can't fit them at all! |

couldn't a rim manufacture add a bead to a 10" rim? they seem to widen them regularly over the pond, while they're stitching the rim back together they could add a bead |

I have just left my brand spanking new Cooper S 4.5 inch wheels at the local tyre service to fit 165 Yoko A008's. They commented they would have to fit tubes due to no safety bead or what ever it is called. Where do we stand with (1) tubeless tyres on standard Cooper S rims, and (2) tubes in tubeless tyres (yokos a008). What do the nb racers do, are they legal. I don't want to experience a blow out due to a chaffed tube, and likewise not prepared to go tubeless due to no safety bead. Very confusing. Need to know legally, not just what someone reckons. This is a very serious concern ! |

The link winnabey mentioned is worth a read, especially phillb's comments on page 2 from a tyre person. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65872&start=15 |

I'll go on the pommy forum site to confirm a few things. I'd rather go tubeless if that is the legal way. |

Yes, worth reading my experience in the linked thread above. Unfortunately there are ohs issues and rules that apply to some of the larger tyre fitting companies and this has let to much confusion an misinformationMostly it is to do with safety when fitting. The cooper s rim is designed to take a tubeless tyre. Tubeless tyres were around for years before safety beads started appearing on rims A tubeless tyre should not be fitted with a tube.
