Post subject:  White Roof... what shade?

Hi All,

In relation to the White roof on a British Racing Green car... what is the actual shade of White? I've seen some Whites that look like creamy white and others that look White White, were both types factory??

cheers

Most two tone Mk1's painted in BRG had a Toga White roof. Then the whites went to Snow white and then Crystal white. The Crystal white is the cleanest and brightest then Snow then Toga. Have a look at the colour charts and it will show you the makeup of the colours.

I'm about to post 22 BALM Australian Colour Range Bulletins in the paint and trim sticky, including the following that first mentions BRG starting in 1964. You'll see BRG is sometimes coupled with and called Cedar Green but then Cedar Green is shown on its own with its own reference number. To confuse things further, there is mention of a BRG for BMC sports models only, and then a New BRG (New Cedar Green) in 1965. :|

The whites are just as confusing as there is Norburg White, then Nurburg White, then Togo white. :?

Don't confuse this with the BRG and whites used on UK built cars.

Hope that helps.

If you want something period correct then try and match up your cars date with a Green/White car on the registers. Otherwise just go for a white that you like to look at.

Its funny how everyone that sees a dark green mini calls it BRG but looking at the MK1 S register the BRG cars only went for about 6 months. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=90843

I'm looking at exactly the same thing.

Most 2-tone 66 - 67 British racing green or new British racing green cars would appear to have toga white on the roof. I had some mixed at my local paint shop and it looks grey. The mixer asked if it looked right?
If you look at the colour charts they all look greyish and I checked with a friend who had some paint colour matched to the original paint on a car and it is almost a perfect match.
What I'm trying to say is if you go toga white expect it to look quite a bit different (greyish) to what you expect but it does appear to be correct.
Cheers

Hi Rod,
Thanks for that, were they able to mix it just by the paint name or do you have a code? if so would you mind passing it on?

Hi Jenk,
My 1966 car is Toga White all over, a fairly greyish white. If you do decide on Toga White for the roof, I have the tinter settings as well as the codes for you.
Ian.
