As an initial answer I will offer that GT column is same as all "clubman's". And has the ignition switch/binnacle fixed to the column. Mounted the same way as earlier mini's. Workshop manual can help with assembly details. I have a couple that I use but the Gregorys for 1971-1978 Minis covers the basics (Bought mine a few years ago on ebay, Aussie published by Haynes)

is the 7/16" bolt at the bottom supposed to slide in easy? I was pounding mine and it would not go in, it damaged the bolt thread and need to get a new one.....do i install the bolt first before mounting the column.

Sorry...but that is terrifying...the huge Achilles heel in Minis is the pinch bolt and splines, loss of steering can be the result...if you don't have the knowledge...wait and learn a lot more before undertaking this repair...or, please have a qualified mechanic give it the once over before you drive it

Actually, it's better that separate questions are posted in separate threads, because different members have interest and knowledge in different areas.

If a member posts all of their questions about their own car in a single thread then

a/ many members will not bother to look in the thread, assuming it is just that person talking about their car rather than looking for help on a particular issue

b/ members searching for information on a certain topic like 'clubman GT steering column installation' will find it a lot more difficult than it is already

however, if a member posts a question like 'how do I install a clubman GT steering column', and then follows up with further questions related to the same topic, then I agree that they should keep them in the same topic.

no! I'm keeping them right where they are!!

prime example - an engine smoking at idle is something many people will face, and they'll be delighted to find a thread dedicated to that, with a response through to resolution. Likewise, people looking for information on GT steering columns will feel the same

As i was installing the steering wheel i noticed the steering column pulls up and down towards celing and steering rack. I noticed the it was moving but the steeringvrack piniin does noes not move. Do i need to thighten the pinch bolt? Or is the column not into pinion deep enough? Thanks

Make sure there is still a gap in the bottom clamp and in the split section of the column when the bolt is done up. Also make sure your splines are clean and have some depth to them.
