Have the chance to buy a cooper s (9F start prefix) block with crank, head, twin carbs minus the gearbox. What type of money should I be looking at for something like this? Has been sitting 20 plus yrs and would need rebuild.
Cheers,
Steve

wait for some other opinions, but that's what people are getting for them

9FSA or 9FXE?

if it's 9FSA, check it has an AEG163 head, if it's a 12G940 it's not worth as much

Condition is everything. Is it the MK1 9FSAY or MK2 9FXEY? The MK2 engine is worth a bit more than the Mk1. Maybe 3 - 4k for the lot depending on bore size and crankshaft journal size. The Mk1 head AEG163 is worth more than the Mk2 12G940 head $500 - $750. If the carbs are complete and have the airbox $750

Mk1 heads are generally cracked,,, not saying that yours is, but normally they are ,
& as with anything complete-ish,,, you won`t know condition until it`s all stripped apart, it could all be stuffed

Matt is right,
Buying like that is a lucky dip so you want it at a good price. Cranks are often cracked as are heads. Bore size determines value and early Mk1 rods are not as valuable as 521 rods. Condition is everything in terms of value. At least pop the head off it and measure the bore.

Std. bore is nominally 70.6mm. The closer to that the better

went and picked it up tonight. Wasnt a cooper motor, just a 1275 started with 12Y. Had a 12g940 head. Also had a set of 7.5inch discs with shafts and calipers, original sunvisor, another set of larger drive shafts. Twin su's, (Complete but same side fuel bowls). Couple of mint cooper grilles, a small indy wooden steering wheel with boss (no centre, dont know much about these), lots of other normal mechanical bits and pieces, set of sliding window glass and latches, set of cheviot mags. Is a deluxe shell, the same as what I already have begun restoring, so will keep the bits i need and then sell this one off eventually. Is quite solid, with a little sill rust, and a couple of bits here and there, I wish I had found it before I had replaced floors and boot in teh one I am doing at the moment cause the floors and boot look great!
Overall pretty happy, will be selling a fair few parts on ebay over the coming weeks :-)

The best thing about buying a job lot is seeing if you can sell off the unwanted stuff for more than what you paid. = free car
