While I was wiring up my black box to the fuse box recently I noticed my two fuses were only 20 amps and when I looked the Electrical section of the workshop manual it stated 35 amps, is this correct ?

Yes, 35 is correct. 20 are too small.

What is there in a standard mini that requires 35 Amp to run? 35 amps it too high and unsafe even though it was the manufacturer's idea. 20 amps is ample and safer.

The original fuses were Lucas 17/35, designed to run at 17 amps continuous and will go up to 35 amps before blowing in 1 second. The 20 amp AGC will run at 20 amps and blow at 40 amps in 1 second. Either one will be fine.

Seems to be a couple of different thoughts here, should I change them to 35 amps or leave them as is

The way I see it, what do you want to go first the fuse or component. If 20 is working then use 20, if they are blowing you can try a 35, or something is wrong.

At least if you blow a fuse, the headlights still work. :) They are unfused originally.

So was the ignition!

I suppose the thinking was if it couldn't drive home, then let it burn

I think I will leave the 20 amp fuses in and see what happens
