Okay so im planning on making my own headlining, using the old water damaged one
as a template, but its got heaps of folds and stuff in it, what can i used to flatten it all out so its easier to use as a template

my motor trimmer made mine up out of black velour(spelling) for only $130 it's beautiful  so it's not that dear if you wanna get one made up

A trimmer would unstitch all the stitching and use the pieces as templates. My trimmer did that with my seats. |

Yeah im having a wrap at making one myself, i unstitched it all but i cant get it flat to make the template....

iron it....but put a towell over it and iron the towell...that way you won't melt the headlining fabric

You could also try just laying it on top of your new material, pushing it down flat and useing a bit of chalk to trace around it. You don't need to go to the trouble of ironing it then. What colour are you doing the new one? Ziff |

Black probally, i have to go looking at materials and what not...i hope it turns out, might make a couple depending on how hard it is then i can see what one i like, and maybe sell the other one, or keep it for the next mini

I got 10 metres of black microsuede from www.fabric.com. Cost about $20/metre from memory, but it's wicked. It's durable (our sofas are surviving our kids so must be tough), yet looks and feels good. Width is fine to make a headlining (for my Clubman) but enough to do parcel shelf etc. Fabric.com are good to deal with as well. Now if I could just get my industrial sewing machine working and find enough time to do it... |

Awesome thanks heaps, ill have to look into that. good luck with sewing  if i dont find a suitable sewing machine, i have to go by hand hahaha

Incidentally, my industrial sewing machine (bought on internet auction for NZ$80) is quite interesting. The motor runs constantly, and the pedal just engages the clutch. The motor sits above a big sump of light machine oil, with about 12 wicks which dip into it. When running, it sounds like you could stitch sheet metal with it. Sounds a bit girly, having a sewing machine, but it's a macho sewing machine - is that okay? Or do I have to hand back my ManCard? |
