Post subject:  Rod change bracket hole location

Hi,

I'm installing a rod change remote and being somewhat pedantic I'm checking where the holes go in the floor for the bracket. I realise that most people wait til they put it in but being neurotic I'd like to check now before it goes off for respraying... The bracket seems to be bent also so I can check this as well..

Thanks for your help....

Steve

The Later rod change cars have a little brace-plate (with a hole in it) welded across the right-hand-rear corner of the main hole in the tunnel for the right hand mounting

& the left hand mounting hole is in a pressed-up section of the floor, approx the same hight above the floor as the length/height of the cotton-reel-mount.

someone will have some pics i`m sure

Thanks miniman. Yes, that's kind of what I was thinking whether I needed to add some reinforcing before the thing gets sent off to the panel beaters....

So there is a raised section on the left of the tunnel to accommodate that mount? That will be tricky to reproduce....

Your options are probably get and graft in a clubby section if you are after that factory look, buy an adaptor mount for the early floor from someone like MiniMania or Sracer in the US, or make up your own bracket like most people have done.

Thanks for the photo, very helpful. However I am still a bit confused by the raised bump in the floor on the left because the mount I have does not seem to need it. Were there some minis with a rod change which did not have this bump? Perhaps the first rod change cars...

I believe the later rod change minis have a square tunnel with two holes at the top/rear of the shifter opening.

The later (non Aussie) rod change looks like this...

The top of the tunnel is raised by the same amount as the hump. All this does is raise the shift box up a bit. The bracket will kind of fit an early floor (apart from the upper mount on the extra 'tab'), but will hang lower.

Thanks all.

I was confused as I hadn't realised the tunnel is higher in a clubman. As it stands the bracket is horizontal when it rests on the tunnel and the floor. It should be possible to modify the current bracket to sit higher, or else as you say buy one.. Such a simple thing should not be so complicated!

So that tab is welded underneath?

Yeah i'm assuming so , i didn't pay any attention to that part when i pulled it out some time ago , it looks like there are spot welds on the corner of the hump .
