Hi guys I have just bought a 1970 low back seat moke, it is a big wheeler but I really like the llook of little wheeler mokes, so I am thinking of going down that route for it. Would it still run alright without changing the diff (what should I expect), or what would I need to change? I have plenty of 10inch speedo drives somewhere around the place. It would be just for driving around town with the occassional highway trip. Its an 1100 motor, original to that vehicle.
Thanks,
steve

according to SP#64, 10" moke had a 4.13:1 diff, 13" moke had 4.27:1 - so they both scream....

I had a 4.13:1 diff in my 1100S powered 850.
Fair screamed all the time. I didn't like going over 80kph on the freeway.
I fitted a 2.95:1 and cruising is brilliant.
You might not want to go this tall if most of your driving is suburban, 3.4:1 would be a likely choice.

A 3.4 or 3.64 diff goes well in a Moke with 10" wheels and a 1098. :)

yes, but difficult is like the length of a piece of string... easier than a full gearbox rebuild, harder than changing a speedo cable. The mainshaft nut needs to be undone - that's the hardest part
