Post subject: | Rover Mini 3rd gear selection |
Hi all, I am a proud owner of a 96 rover mini, newly purchased nearly 40 years after departing with my clubbie GT. The problem , ( not even sure if it is one ) is that to select 3rd gear the gear stick needs to be pushed hard against the furthermost right stop point before it allows any upward movement, every other gear goes in dead easy, nothing crunches or grinds in the gearbox so I hoping its something in the shift rods arrangements, is something worn or out of alignment/ adjustment? I know the previous owner had the motor out and rebuilt, including a reco gearbox. Any advice would be great, cheers Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Depends where you are? take it to a Mini specialist to get the correct diagnosis. Hard to tell what the problem is without looking at it. |

Hard to tell what the problem is without looking at it. but there are lots of common problems with simple fixes that an be checked easily at home... it's not rocket science like the selector linkage coupling on rod change boxes, if it's been taken apart and put back together with a damaged roll pin that's not allowing the selector input shaft rotate properly https://www.minispares.com/product/Clas ... Gotta make sure that everything is okay under there. If the housing is moving instead of the rods, you're never going to win. Mountings at 3, 26, 30, 10 and 11 is where i'd start. ![]() |

Plus 1 on the mounts/link comments. Check the housing (gear stick) is level, it'll do funny things if it's out of wack. |

Why did they ditch the remote housing system in favour of the rod change (seems overly complicated)... |
