Post subject:  Subframe Paint

Anyone got a recommendation for a product to paint subframes with?

Also, since we can't use high pressure water cleaners in SYD, whats a good method to clean subframes with?

yea wire brush and kero may be the go.

I was thinking about using:

Cheaper than powder coating.

My tips for good looking (but not show quality) subframes.

Remove subframes.

Get as much grease and crap as you can off by scraping with screwdrivers or whatever.

Grab a box trailer, throw the subframes in it. Liberally coat the subframes with degreaser, work it in well with a paintbrush.

Now drive straight down to your local carwash (Car Lovers etc) and blast them with the high pressure hose.

Follow up with a good sanding and/or wire brushing followed by a few coats of black Killrust. Very durable. 8)

If you want show quality, sandblast and powdercoat instead. :)

LOL CarLover's reuse their water.

That would be funny if you rocked up and paid 20 bucks to give your car a wash in paint stripper.

I wire brushed and rust converted my 850's ones, then sprayed them with VHT acrylic enamel, 2 coats.
Under floor (and inside floor too) I used 2 pack tar epoxy. Evil stuff to use, but on there forever (almost). $40/litre at Bias Boating warehouse. 8)

I think someone already posted the link to it, but that POR15 stuff is meant to be good for those sort of things. Cant remember how it compares to other coating systems price wise though.

Never thought of Paint Stripper in the Car Lovers water.

I hope their filters are good!!

Lately I have used my own Karcher pressure washer - supposed to be a water saving device, so quite legal to use in Victoria. :D

I've got a bucket, with a 350GPH bilge pump mounted in it.. :P

Not a lot of pressure but great for rinsing cars and parts...

I can rinse the Mini off with 1 bucket of water!

Hey they say `use a bucket', but don't stipulate HOW..
