Has anyone ever transported a mini engine in their mini in once piece?


aside from the engine that it is running it.

Yes. I drove from Launceston to Nelson Bay with a 1098 power unit strapped into the passenger seat space and a rear subframe strapped in the boot. passenger seat was strapped upside down behind drivers seat. I did have to take the gearbox remote change off to fit it in.

Still had room for my bag and a few other bits and pieces.

Not bad for a 998!

Amazing what people do and risks they take to save a dollar!
I wonder what the constabulary or the transport guys will say if one gets pulled up?
Convince me this is safe to do!

Not sure about the safety aspect but for me, why struggle to get a dirty old engine into your mini when you can just borrow a mates ute.

Would require a mate with a ute, proposed pick up day is the mini's in the gong show and shine in January while I am down there. Will either meet at the show or drive down to Nowra after to pick it up.

1. Empty oil out of engine.
2. Buy HD tarp from Supercrap; wrap engine.
3 Remove passenger seat and stow behind driver.
4. Enlist muscley mates to lay engine face down in space left by absent pass' seat.

Oh and 5. Arrange muscly mates available at destination to unload engine :)

I would get a piece of plywood or similar to try and spread the load out over the floor pan. If you can get a large plastic tub from Bunnings etc it might stop the inevitable oil leaks!

You'd need the next size up from this one to fit the complete powertrain package.

A power unit is 150kg.

I once had 2 x 80kg guys in the back seat (no seat belts) and a 120kg guy in the front seat. The car is designed to deal with this load - four adults was the design spec. A properly secured 150kg load is fine in my book.

I really can't visualise how 150Kg of cargo could be properly secured in the area where a passenger would normally sit. I consider the whole idea as an "internal load fail".
