The card you're wanting to use looks like the early Deluxe style. The Deluxe used the first style of windup door (not 'flappy handle') and so the catch area on the body is smaller.
To get around the bigger pillar on your car you may need to use cards with a bit of a cut out.

Attached is a rough cropped picture of what I think is a Clubman card, circa '72.
Note the slight cutout at the B pillar/catch. It also has an extra bit at the bottom for the base of the pocket.

I think that would be right, which makes 4 types ive seen now =/ ill probably mod these a little. What is the best way to fit them? Do you just jab them in? The ones I took out were just jammed all the way past the groove at the top.

They're all a bit ordinary in the way they fit. I found if you put a bit of foam rubber sheeting behind them they tend to stay in place better. Just push them right down and then, using magic, slide them up into top groove.

Definitely magic ..... In my Mk I, if you push the panel right to the bottom it will overlap the top retaining groove ...so "slide them up" does not compute..

I found it necessary to remove the seat back. Slide the panel as far down and forward as it will go. With great difficulty insert your hand behind the middle of the panel and push it towards the centre of the car. This allows you to "bow" the panel outwards which allows you to slide the top into the retaining slot. Remove hand.

You need to be very careful to avoid creasing the backboard or damaging the vinyl on the sharp edges -especially around the front of the door pocket.

The availability of more than two hands and clear access by removing the rear side window catch and opening the rear window AFAP will help...

Cheers, Ian

I'm even reading i can remove the riveted cap under the window and re-screw it with the card in the groove. Could be a goer, since the cards are pretty beaten up. I will see how it goes and let you know! Cheers for the help

I had to jab the wheel arch vinyl into the groove since these cards were longer there, then trimming the b pillar side let the cards slot in nicely. I forced them down as far as i could then pushed the top in with a wide blunt edge. Pretty chuffed. Image
