Hi All, Got a couple of split CV boots to replace. Could someone please advise the EASIEST way to do this as I have read heaps of posts and not sure which method is best for my car (and laziness!) Car is Mk1 Cooper S with Hardy Spicer unis. Thanks in advance! |

easiest - undo the top ball joint, turn the steering wheel all the way to the other side of the car (IE, doing left wheel, steer right), flop the upright away from the car, slide the driveshaft out of the yoke at the gearbox end, cut the old CV boot off, clean the driveshaft, slide newie on, secure |

All good and was easy to do up to point where I tried to slide the driveshaft out of the yoke at gearbox end (driver's side). Even at full opposite lock, the shaft was still in the yoke. I also disconnected ball joint to steering rod, still no go, so disconnected lower ball joint and all good. Easy to replace both boots from there. Now trying to put the upright back into top arm hole but as suspension is pressurised, not easy - so had to use a jack and a long bolt to lift top arm so upright could be re-fitted. All good now, so hope this helps someone with the same issue and same car - no need to remove hub or brake line or de-pressurise suspension..... Now onto the other side....... Passenger side much easier - just took off top and bottom ball joints and shaft came out easy peasy... was quick to do this side.... hope the boots are good quality as it is a very messy job...... |
