| Post subject: | Air/Train horn install? |
Hi, I'm a little tired of people not getting out the way when I need to beep my 'cute' original mini horn. I figure, maybe scaring the $h#t out of people will encourage them to not merge basically on top of me. Has anyone install an air horn/train horn type horn in their mini? There's a big variety of them on ebay you can buy, so was possibly interested in one of those kits. Cheers, James |

I have a nautilus style one in direct replacement of the stock horn. Works well, but the sound is a bit happy for my liking. I believe the db limit for a standard horn is 139 db. I don't see why you can't put a train horn in the rear sub frame for emergencies.

Was there much work to do wiring wise? At the moment I just have the two purple wires coming off the horn (not sure if they are relayed, would need to check) |

No wasn't much. I forget exactly but I think it's power to relay and horn. Which is the two purple then a new Earth and from the relay and a loop to the other end of the horn with a 15 amp fuse in an inline holder. I mounted the relay under the cross member in the second horn mounting hole. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk |

I have a pair almost identical to this kit to be fitted to our Mini K that came off of a Clubman wreck: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252476554519 They were on the inner guard behind the grille on the Clubman, and fit well behind the grille on the K, alongside the clutch housing (using existing holes for the original heater!). |

This is from NSW EPA.. http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/noise/vehiclenoise.htm Quote: Noise from motor vehicle horns Horns cannot be installed or used if they are louder than the level in clause 21 of the Regulation. I also have a stebel nautilus horn and installed i similar to how jprior2912 installed theirs. However I had issues with the horn moving too much and it actually tore the sheet metal lip. I installed it further forward by moving the mounting point to the top of the horn and putting a small bolt through the bonnet catch panel, it's much more secure there. But it's been a good horn, I really don't think it's the claimed 139dB but it is loud. |

I had a 169db train horn installed in the moke, Horns under the rear subframe and tank/ compressor in the side box. I later transferred this to the mini, Tank and compressor in the boot with the horns where a brake booster normally sits. |

My bus horn is only 120db.......... measured at a one kilometre distance.

I have the Steel Nautilus. From what I read too the horn noise limit is 120db and this one exceeds it at 139db. (Assuming that 139 is the correct amount as outlined in all of the marketing material) Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |

I have a nautilus. It is plenty loud enough and an easy install. I kept the original horn as well.

I run a pair of Fiamm metal trumpet air horns rescued from my Fiat 124 Sport. Installed in LH wheel arch they are plenty loud if leaned on, but give a polite beep if touched quickly. |

As a teenage hoon my mini had 2 sets of triple horns bolted onto roof.  , When in a real nasty 'get out my way' mood a secret switch was flicked and when horn button pushed all horns came on plus 4 spotties, they whole thing had a separate battery and wiring in the boot. I regretfully say I was a hoon and did not respect that little rocket, but if i had a mini today the above would still fit in just a little more subtle. Like scaring the crap out of idiots. |
