OK i am thinking of a new exhaust to finish things off
Was the Cooper S fitted with a Lukey Muffler back in the day?
I see these RC40 Mufflers advertised
Are they a copy of the original
I would like to hear what you have used and how it sounds

Not sure what original was but lots of info on Lukey 132 worth reading.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=86421&hilit=lukey+muffler&start=30

I got one about a year ago, there should still be one or two around.

From my recollection, factory cars were not fitted with a Lukey. The original mufflers didn't have much durability (although a mate with a Mark 1 with it's muffler blown out thought it sounded great - the noise inside would wake up the dead!).

Lukey came along with a replacement, as an alternative to BMC Spares dept. It was a much better product.
No doubt BMC put out tenders for supplying mufflers at the lowest possible price, during production.

It will be tough to get one now. A lot of their products are no longer in production.

This is where I purchased mine a year or so ago but it looks like they are now out of stock. You could try calling.

As mentioned in that other thread posted by Flute the L-132 is shorter than the original production muffler, which was 18" long.

I think that I scooped up their remaining stock last year. :)

I haven't found definitive evidence of the manufacturer of the Cooper S production muffler but the engineering drawings for other BMC cars made in the same period (Morris 1100, Austin 1800) clearly state that W.C.Stevens was the source supplier. I would bet on them also supplying the Mini range of mufflers. John Smidt thinks the same.

The W.C.Stevens catalogue from back then lists model XL2481 for the Cooper S.
