Hi All, I have a single HIF44 carb on my 1310, RE266SS camshaft, headwork, 1.5 rockers ect. Currently it has a BCV needle (and assumed red spring, as it was tuned). When I put my A/F meter on it, at full throttle under load it gets low 14's, which doesn't seem optimal. However, when I look at the curve on Minty Lamb's compar-o-rama, the needle seems like it's a very rich needle, especially up the top end. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should be using? is BCV just not a good needle for the car? Cheers, James |

There are a few examples here, funny that it says BDR is "insanely rich" at the top end, yet it's not as rich as your needle? http://www.dummett.net/ime/website/ime/a2z/needles.html If you had any leak in the exhaust before the sensor could it be sucking in a little air and giving a lean result? |

Cheers, that's a good reference. In regards to false lean reading (this did cross my mind) - according to the MTX-L manual, exhaust leaks can cause false leans - but under full load it generally isn't affected. Might be worth leaving possibly for now.. I'm going to take it to a zorst shop to get new clamps ect - they're buggered! |

I'm using a BBC, leaner bottom-end and richer top-end than your BCV... I smoothed out the sharp angle around station 7 and it works well, though still idles richer than I want. I found that needle when I couldn't find one that would give me lean enough bottom-end without running into 16:1 AFRs in mid-top. That BDR needle would be useless in my car Go over your exhaust. There's nothing to stop you getting under the car while the engine is running and feeling for leaks. Not pleasant on hot days though http://www.morrismini.com/SUNeedlesV2.a ... &size=.100 |
