Hi all, I've got a standard 1100 1975 mini with the usual exhaust upgrades etc but looking for a bit more power without major modifications. I'm told an upgrade of the cam will improve performance without having to make any other engine modifications which I'm not interested in at the moment. Welcome to some ideas and experiences from other 1100 owners out there. Thanks. |

cams are part of a package. A head by it self would be good for a few HP, exhaust by itself worth a few more. A cam is great when all of those parts work together. A mad fast cam will do little on a stocko small valve'd head. My old 1100 had an re13 spec cam, medium bore LCB's, a 45 weber (too big... but still fun) and a worked 202 head. That was good for just over 50hp at the wheels. Loved that thing... if I were to build another NA 1100 id be inclined to make sure all the components were closer matched together. |

he's right... changing the cam means taking the engine out, head off, replacing the followers, but won't make that much difference on it's own you're better off doing the head & carb first - don't need to take the engine out for that what carb do you have on it? an 1.75" HIF44 will do good things for it |

Hi Killa I have some really good cams for the 1100's, that's the thing that holds the mini back, 1 1/2 carbie cam change and your exhaust will lift the power buy 15 to 20 hp and that's with my modified "S" grind or the 266SS. Graham Russell |

Thanks for your comments everyone I'm running a single 1.5 inch SU and recently put new hurricane 3-2-1 extractors on it so don't really expect to get too much more out of the exhaust. The SU could probably do with an overhaul. Intested to hear more about what difference a 1.75" HIF44 will make alone, or again, part of a package? |

I would point out that the engine doesn't have to come out for a cam and lifters change unless it's a non-S 1275. You just need to cut and bend one slat on the radiator shroud on the body. Then tack weld it afterwards. ![]() |

a freshened up 202 head would also help (if youre running a smog head at the moment.) |

Doc is correct, no need to remove the engine or head for a cam change in an 1100. "It's better to be not informed than ill-informed" very true! Forget the hif44 go HS6. Less complicated, easy to find and cheaper for the same result. |

If I can clarify with GR, if I a fresh built 1098 with standard head which is listed as having 48hp if fitted with a 1 1/2" SU or twin HS2S and a better exhaust as well as say a 266ss cam you can expect around 63HP? What would an increase in CR from 8.9:1 to 10:1 expect? |

I would use std or 1.3 rockers on a 1098. 1.5s give too much lift. My mate's short stroke 1108 screams with Graham's 266ss cam and stock rockers. |
