Post subject: | Spare wheel - how is it held down? |
I replaced my boot floor, and now can't remember if there is actually something that holds down the spare wheel to the boot floor? I have seen brackets welded to the boot floor for this purpose, but did every Mini have this? I just need to know for rego purposes. If they tell me the spare should be held down, and it wasn't in a Mini, I can tell them to go jump! ![]() |

Jump away, none of mine had them, wasn't there a thread on someone who had made a wheel bracket ![]() ![]() |

My in laws 850 has a bracket welded to the boot floor, that a bolt hooks into, and runs up through the guts of the spare wheel. I thought that might have been standard. Bob, I like your reply.....short, sharp, and accurate! ![]() |

I was goung to consider a mounting device since I noticed my wheel moved around a bit. Nothing definite, but if I go twin tanks I'll definetely weld a bolt into the floor, or at least some hooks for an elastic strap. None of my 61 850's have them, mind you, not sure of how original the floor is! |

I think the early 850's had em. Other than that, a Mini never had anything holding the spare wheel in. It's "standard equipment", so you shouldn't get pinged for it when going for a RWC (or which ever state you in's equiv). If ya do get pinged for it, take your Mini to a tester that's actually seen a Mini! ![]() |

I know pretty much everyone agrees but even my 95 rover had nothing to hold it down except a piece of dirty carpet... |

Minis here in Oz had a hold down threaded thingy until `67 or so. Our Barney (66) has one. But Ha-Ha (3/70) doesn't. ![]() |
