I THINK I have scored a 73 Morris 1300......I've been told this should fit into my mini 1000 (82 round nose)....the motor that is

I can't seem to find much info about this motor.....anyone know anything?? I think I've worked out it's an AD016 body etc. much like this:

Did you google at all? First link:
http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/1089/

Yes, A-Series 1275 'Detuned Mini Cooper engine' (website fact)

Probably just need to change the engine mounts.

Here in Oz the Morris 1300 was an auto. If you want to convert to a manuel there are procedures in the Mini Mod zone.

This one is a manual :D

I JUST picked it up and drove it home, rego & warrant JUST expired last month & he didn't bother getting one as some vandals smashed the rear tail lights and kicked in the boot area etc. There were NO idicators so I got the missus to follw me home (5 min drive) ONE min into the return trip I get pulled up  Was really looking at roughly $600-$1000 in fines for a $125 purchase price........LUCKLY I managed to talk out of it despite him saying pretty quickly I am to park it off the road, trailor it, and head home with a bunch of tickets. Explained that I had JUST picked it up and was de-registering it tomorrow & only taking it home for the motor & he let me off!! :P

BLODDY lucky. Seemed to pull ok, bit sputtery but has like NO fuel left in it.

That looks suspiciously like an MG1100....there is a picture of the one I drove to Wheels 2004 or 5 in Canberra...check the Events folder.

If so, it might be a good idea to leave it as it is....close ratio gearbox, twin SUs and 1275...also known as an Austin America???....anyway, well worth preserving for what it is mate :!: :D

Looking at it now I have it and seeing that pic it's not quite the same. Is as far as I can tell identical to this:

Im told the unit is and older pre A+ engine, and will have remote change, so I'll have to change the gearbox to make it fit my shell.....sound right??

Here in Oz they called it an 1100S even though it was a 1275. Just to confuse everybody and trade on the S name.... Elsewhere in the world it was called a 1300, or Austin America (which was a 2 door ADO16 body).
They finally called the auto a Morris 1300 here, to distinguish it from the Morris 1500 OHC POS.

It's the equiv to our 1100 S I would say. Search for Morris 1100, you'll get plenty of info. Engine is the same as the Mini's, but brakes can't be used without modification.

Are they right about the gearbox??

So for $125 it sounds like a good buy, even just for the motor??

Gearbox will fit, but remote mounting has a rubber sandwich plate in between to make the shift feel crappy and imprecise.
MiniMania site sells a solid sandwich mount, which rectifies this.
You will need to fit a Mini engine mount & bracket to the radiator end of gearbox, and fling the old 1300 mounts.
Also fit a `Mini remote shift' rubber mount to the end of extension housing.

Diff ratio will be a bit low, I'd bung a 3.44 in there while it's out. 8)

It is a Mk2 car not like the Mk1s that we had in aus.
Being a late car it could have a rod change gearbox, does it have a puddle of oil under the rear of the gearbox?

If it has a rod change you should be able to keep the gearbox.

Hmmm.....some of that goes right over my head

To be honest the gear changes in that were MUCH nicer than my current mini, which is sad as I spent like $1300 on that gearbox  sometimes hard to get in the gears etc. The morris just changed and sloted in no problem.

$89.95 US dollars isn't to bad aye. The Mini engine mount & bracket etc...can't I use the one in my mini now??

What will the different diff do to the actual feel driving the car??

Yes you can probably use your existing mounts...just can't use the ones off the 1300....

The diff is probably a stump puller mate....it will rev its little head off...they were meant to be a town car...an English Town!! :D

So low profile rubber would improve the acceleration :!:

Lots of towns in NZ go from 50 to 30 zones in the built up areas last time I drove there...so very English Town speeds anyway :!:
