Hey
Firstly i'dd like to say thank you for creating such a wonderful community , i have learnt a lot about classic minis especially since i am still new to the scene.
I recently bought a 1973 mini club man and installed a 1275 that has been bored to 1380 ( must say there definitely is a lot of power) the wheels to occasionally spin in the wet whilst harmlessly taking off.
I have been looking at buying wider rims and tires to help with grip furthermore i would also like to achieve a wide stanced look , possibly adding group 2 flares on the car.
My question is how is this appropriately and safely achieved.
1. Do i buy longer studs and put spacers , fitting on 6x12 rims and tires ?
2. Is there special hubs that i buy that would naturally place the rim further out of arch wall ?

kind regards

Sid

Hi Sid, depending on which state you are in wheel spacers might be illegal. Best to check first. In regards to the arches, I'd get the wheels you want first and then get the arches to suit.

If you want the wheels to stick out as far as possible you need the widest wheels with the lowest offset. These are the same design as the picture above and the offset is -7. You might need to trim some metal from the guards so the wheels don't rub when you turn.

E.g. the starmag is avaliable in +7 offset and -7 offset. The -7 will stick out 14mm further than the +7 wheel.

If in VIC check with VicRoads. Some of their info below. Scroll to page 7 tyre width.

Expect to raise subframes. Cut guards, radius them up. Trim the rear wheel tubs as per Vizard/Miglia specs.

Stance done well looks easy but in reality it never is!

Welcome and good luck with getting your ride the way you want it. I stuck with the contemporary look but found the yoko a008 tyres do make the car look a good deal wider than what it actually is...I keep it simple as I don't have a lot of time nowadays to fluff about.

I'm pretty sure they are illegal Australia wide if they are not OEM.

That was published in 2008 and some of it is pretty out of date!

Wheel spacers are illegal in new south wales, if i remember the wording can be up to interpritation, but the gist is that they should be perminantly affixed.

If your vehicle is unregistered, I'd check with the roadworthy guy before shelling out on anything.

I would check with the authorities, the roadworthy guy just issues a RWC, it is the Police who pull you over or worse the insurance company that doesn't pay out because you don't comply that matters in my opinion.

Ones on the top grey car are "Alleycat" or "Rallye Special" depending on the brand.
http://www.johnbrownwheels.com/products ... ecial.html

Wheels on the dark green car are SSR FL-II from Japan. Force racing in the UK do a version too called ST-10
