Post subject:  No Spark with new Electronic Ignition module

I have a 74 Leyland that I got an electronic ignition module and put it in my distributor as per the supplied instructions. Was a simple process and there weren't any issues with fitting, apart from the fact I now have no spark. I tried another module (I bought 2 as I have 2 minis) and still no spark. What should I be looking at for troubleshooting?

The car has a ballast resistor in there which minikingdom suggested could be the issue. Any other thoughts? How can i test whether the module works and the issue is elsewhere

I have just fitted a Minikingdom one without issue.
I have a standard coil with no resistor.
I would try it without the resistor, but you may also need to change the coil to the correct resistance.

Do the instructions mention anything about the type of coil or ballast?

No these instructions dont, but i've since found that instructions from other suppliers have strict instruction on how its supposed to wire with a ballast resister. I wired directly to the coil as per the instructions but it seems the positive should have been wired to the 12V side of the ballast. Perhaps i've blown the module but i am not sure how to check

If you wired to the 'resistor' coil you only have 8 or 9 volts there. I doubt the module is blown, I would connect to the 12V side of the ballast resistor instead.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the same thing but most guides say "DO NOT CONNECT HERE" so I thought it would cause the end of days for my my module. I assumed it would have been something about current draw, in the same way that you cant use 1.5ohm coils?

I did what you suggested but still no spark. How can i test whether I killed it?

Check the earth. I thought mine had died but only the earth had failed...
