I am after a boot lid liner for a Cooper S. One of the masonite style ones. I think these were fitted to the Mk2's. The pic is of a 69 S and shows the liner at the base of the photo.
From memory they call the material leatherboard, but to me it looks like masonite with a textured finish rather than smooth.
Any one know where I can score the material to make one?

I wonder how the repro ones compare to the original stuff?

Minikingdomonline has boards made to the original shape from the original material, although not in stock on the site.

I brought the original board material ( I can't think of the correct name ) from John at Minikingdom and used my old boot lid liner as a patten to make a new one.
You can wet the board and bend it and then let it dry and it will hold it's shape. I made up a jig to form the curve, less chance of doing any damage to the board when fitting.
I was told that the same material was used to line the inside of caravans back in the 60's and thats how they formed the curve's. It was also used on the back of wardrobes as a liner. It also paint's up nice.
Don't forget to put your soundproofing material in first.

I have bought a boot board similar to the Minisport Adelaide one shown here. It is identical to the original board in my 1966 S with a fine "pebblecrete" appearance. These are from Mini Spares UK. They fit perfectly - they come flat but easily bend to the required curve as it is being fitted.
My 1970 Mk2 has a coarser leather grain pattern exactly like Minikingdom's "genuine" pattern and not the same as the earlier pattern.

Thanks. Good info there.

I forgot to mention that the board I brought from John which is the original grain come's about 5mm thick.
The original boot lid board is 3 to 3.5mm thick so had to mill it down for the correct thickness.

Thanks for the info guys. I like the idea of the masonite type material, the same as my Mk2. So I ordered one from John, which he said would need to go through the thicknesser to make it thinner. Thanks again.

Just measured my mk2 board at 3.5mm allowing for fuzzy edges. Suggest NOT over tightening the screws firstup. I am finding bulges in the board between the screws which might be due to over-tightening while the board was reshaping itself.
