Hi All,

I've been struggling to get one of the fuel tank hoses in today... I have:
21A2331 Link pipe (5/16" OD)
21A2332 "Tank to interconnecting pipe Cooper S" x 2 (5/16" Bore)
21A1324 "Fuel tank to pump Cooper S"
Old fuel pump has a 5/16" OD

Now, I can get the short hoses on fine. The longer hose that goes to the pump seems to be too small in diameter to get onto the link pipe, it seems to be a tight fit on 1/4".

I can't seem to find anywhere that lists a 5/16" hose to join the link pipe to the pump?

Cheers, Tim

I used proper USA made Gates 5/16 fuel hose. Unlike some hose it doesn't go hard with unleaded fuels.
I also used it in the boot instead of the link pipe. I changed that after 15 years but it was still like new.

Thanks, is there any reason why all the mini shops only sell braided lines for the fuel?

Not so important on my 850 then!

Called the supplier of the hose, they've confirmed the link pipe and fuel pump in stock are both 5/16". The connecting hose they have in stock and in all their parts books is 1/4". Strange how I'm the first person who has had an issue with this  . Hopefully will have it all sorted tomorrow.

What is the size of the hose going from the fuel pump outlet to the steel pipe that runs under the car?

We just used 5/16" USA hose from a Facet pump to the main line, which is 1/4". Tried 1/4" hose but it didn't fit the Facet.

SU pump is also 5/16" but the original 1/4" unreinforced rubber hose could be forced over it.
This on my old MK 1 S which is here at the moment.
Facet fitted for reliability rather than the 50 year old SU pump.

I had the same trouble when fitting out the boot. I didn't know the link pipe and fuel tank outlets were 5/16 but the rest of the system is 1/4!
I was using a length of braided hose from UK and cutting pieces to measure and fitting hose ends to cover the braiding. Had to send for a length of 5/16 for the tank links.
Under the car 1/4 hose was fine to connect pump to main pipe as the outlet spout on the SU pump was happy to accept both sizes of hose.

Thanks Bill, nice to know I'm not the only one! I bought some "5/16" Goss fuel hose from the local parts shop, which turned out to be 8mm, so too big. They are ordering in some Gates 5/16" (7.93mm) hose for me tomorrow, so hopefully that'll work.. Bit of a pain at the moment as I can't move the car as there is no fuel supply to the pump!

The mini supplier has taken it up with their UK distributor, waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully they can take back/refund my first 1/4" hose as it's now ruined and didn't fit as they had described...

Heres the minispares listing, diagram number 33 are all 1/4" hose

I wonder how they did it originally? I have an original link pipe and it's 5/16 but the tank outlets are 1/4 so I wonder if the original hoses were "special" with different sizes one end to the other?

Most original hose at the pump was plain rubber with no reinforcement. So it would stretch from 1/4 to 5/16.

Local shop got in some Gates 5/16 (7.92mm) fuel injection hose that was too hard and too big in diameter to fit. Add that to the pile..

The two short braided lengths that connect to each tank are now ruined from putting the link pipe in and out many times now too.

I have some 6.5mm hose here too but it's too small to get on the link pipe.

No luck from the supplier of the hose either. Funny how this last step is being the biggest pain!

There are 2 Gates hoses, carby and injection. I used the 5/16 carby one and clamped it down to the 1/4" main line.

Both my tanks 1970-71 are 5/16. Main fuel line is 1/4".
