Post subject:  850 underside fuel line and cable routes

I am starting to make up brake lines, etc. to put the 62 850 back together and I want it to be close to original, with floor starter, etc.

How did the fuel line run at the front and rear?
Does it go between the body and subframe at the rear?
Is it the mirror image of the brake line at the front up past the steering rack?

How does the power cable run from the floor starter switch to the regulator (assuming it goes to the regulator).

What is the cable clip under the steering rack mount used for?

Photos are before and after the paint job.
Any photos or info appreciated.

Rear section of your fuel line missing a section. Fuel line at front is different to brake line. If your 850 has an SU pump it will continue up and through the the heater hose bracket.
Power feed from starter switch goes through a grommet in the centre of the firewall above the steering rack [near the dip switch].
Early 850's have the 3 way brake connection mounted lower below the bulkhead and the brake line is shorter as a result.
Can supply pics if you need to your email.

Hi wild willy, would love some photos. I have the 3 way t lower on the fire wall, and the plate for the heater hoses has the hole for the fuel line.
Does the fuel line run between the body and subframe at the rear?
My email is [email protected].
Thanks

You can use the Edit button at bottom right of your post to make changes, such as correcting the email address, as an alternative to creating a new post.

Here's some pics of the '62 Cooper pipe layout. The only difference between an 850 and Cooper (in this layout) of the same vintage would be the starter push button (or lack thereof).

The main brake pipe is shorter and is about 100". Master cylinder to 3way is longer and about 17".

Wild willy, thanks so much for the photo's.
Do you have one from under the bonnet showing the fuel line coming up to the bracket on the bulkhead?
This bracket being the one that the heater hoses also go through. (Parts in photo will be new / detailed for final build)

Fuel line position on another 997 Cooper. The fuel line should be across a little further across and in line with the recess in the firewall where it comes up between the subframe and firewall..

Is that the correct bracket? Looks like the standard bracket from under the master cylinders.

Shouldn't tha battery cable stop at the floor starter button, then continue on to the starter motor.
A branch should come from the live side of the floor starter to the ignition and fuse box as well shouldn't it ?

PhilB that would be correct for an 850. Pics are from a Cooper 997. Live feed from starter switch goes through the grommet in the firewall below and to the right of the bulkhead.

Thanks for the info.
Does the power feed go to the ignition switch on the 850, as my manuals show it going to the regulator.
