Post subject:  How to attach a dash

Ahoy miniacs,
Just wondering how people attach dashboards to the dash rails in their minis. I'm attempting to make a timber one and not sure how to go about making sure it stays where it's meant to
Radical & thanks in advance
Trent

Maybe just copy the method used by dealers when they installed those full width burl walnut dashboards. Seems to be plenty of cars with them fitted, so just ask one of the owners.

May not help much if you don't have the actual walnut dash to compare brackets and screws but here's the installation instructions for the BMC accessory version.

A walnut style accessory dash was in my car when I bought it.

Normally the stainless steel trim is removed from the lower rail. Then per side 2 small holes are drilled in the top edge of the lower dash rail and the under side of the upper rail. Small 90 degree brackets then secure the timber from behind.

The screws used were quite small. My screw holes are barely noticeable and almost covered by the reinstalled stainless trim.

EDIT: actually reading the BMC instruction I now remember there were vertical timber blocks that fitted at the far ends also that the panels fitted against.
