There ain't one on AUSMINI, should there be one? If one of the main reasons for having all the other registers is to protect buyers from scammers etc then we should have something on Rover Mini...Yes ![]() |

9YaTaH wrote: There ain't one on AUSMINI, should there be one? If one of the main reasons for having all the other registers is to protect buyers from scammers etc then we should have something on Rover Mini...Yes ![]() The idea of having an Australian vehicle Register started with the Cooper S because some subtle changes to a Mini DeLuxe or Mini K could result in a car being sold as something it is not and for a much higher price. This not only reflects badly on the individual creating the replica but, to a lesser extent, on the Mini enthusiast community, which includes this forum. The lack of factory production records makes it difficult for non-experts to authenticate a genuine Cooper S and easier for those intent on faking a car. Watto and a few others started collecting Australian Cooper S data several decades ago. In late 2015 Ausmini management saw a benefit and hence agreed to host Mark 1 and Mark 2 registers using combined historical data from several sources. Mini Cooper and Clubman GT registers followed on for similar reasons. Maintenance of the source data for these registers takes quite a bit of effort by volunteers and the effort to manipulate it and present in a clear format also takes time. Work is underway on publishing a Australian Morris 850 register, of sorts. Since over 61,000 of these were built it isn't feasible or practical to create a full register so the intent is to include representative data covering the production period. The aim is to present sufficient information to help answer the questions most asked - "When was my Morris 850 built, what engine number range would apply and what were the common colours for that period". Inclusion of other registers such as the Mini Matic, Mini LS and now the Rover Mini has been suggested. As already mentioned these all require someone to take ownership for the data collection, cleansing and presentation, so there needs to be a clear benefit if Ausmini is to be involved. Of course there are other options people can take to host such lists outside of this forum. Sorry for the long introduction but I thought it worth doing so the full extent of the suggestion is understood. Comments welcome. ![]() |

Do the British Heritage certificates cover the Rover Minis too? They kept better records than over here. |

Post subject: | Re: Australian Rover Mini Register |
^^ keeping a register of Rovers is pretty pointless, the special models have their own registers, and any other rover is just another rover, what are you going to be ripped off with... |

As for Simes thoughts, the Japanese models and UK imports are just as interesting a subject on their own as K vs Deluxe etc (maybe not to Simon, but certainly to others)... Timmy and Klas recent posts for example... I don't think any factory NA Rovers put out 75hp.. The "Cooper S" models listed on the net are John Cooper tuned minis, and not really a factory job. The best factory effort was the MG Metro with 72HP Interestingly the 1990 carb Mini Cooper uses the same engine but is only rated 60HP..... looks like early emissions control choked it quite a bit 1990 - Mini Cooper 1275 - 61ps / 60hp http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 201990.pdf 1992 - Mini Sprite & Mayfair (1275) - 50ps / 49hp 685-710kg 1992 - Mini Cooper 1.3i - 63ps / 62hp http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 201992.pdf 1996 - Cooper 35 edition - 63ps / 62hp http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 201996.pdf 1998 - Mini 1.3i & Cooper 1.3i - 63ps / 62hp http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 201998.pdf Of course, you could go and spend lots of money with John Cooper... http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 201992.pdf http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 201994.pdf http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... 997-98.pdf http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... %20SSE.pdf |

Are you talking about a doing a "how to identify a rover" and the different specs that were available like the classic register does http://classicregister.com/id-guides/node_title=mini or do you want a list of car vin numbers /sale date /paint code/ engine number/ like the cooper s register? |

The UK Mini Cooper club has an existing register of Rover Coopers: http://www.minicooper.org/rover-cooper-register/ Then you have a bunch of specific model registers eg: http://www.2000miniregister.co.uk/stats.html http://coopersport500register.co.uk/CS5 ... mmary.html http://www.mini25.com/ http://www.paulsmithmini.co.uk/ http://www.minispecialregister.com/ http://www.rsp-cooper-register.co.uk/index.htm http://www.minidesigner.co.uk/ They made that many different Special Edition cars too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_M ... d_editions There are many guides on how to identify VIN numbers. Only 1997 to 2000 and pre 1988 models can currently be imported. http://www.minimania.com/Mini_Chassis_V ... s__Part_II Although, as above I'm not sure how much use a register would be to a person looking to buy a Rover? If you're only interested in cars imported to Australia, possibly the import workshops will have a list of cars, possibly the RMS/equivalent would have some idea? http://www.ozcooper.com.au/ |

Putting together some info would be easy enough.. I can do that, I'm not interested in running a Rover register though. |

Copy that! I notice that an acquaintances Oz Cooper 500 is on a UK register...but Were all Jap Spec Mini's tracked/recorded by UK Registrars? Were all Jap Spec Mini's re-exported to Oz tracked/recorded by UK Registrars? The other thing that could be updated is a list of Oz Mini businesses who have Rover Mini capability...diagnostics etc..Greig Malure at Classic Mini and Oz Mini Cooper used to be on the list that I know of... |
