Preparing my mini for a big drive to Bonnie Doon in September to Mr and Mrs Flapper mini day out. One job I had to do was to get the mini on the CityLink database for use of the M3 Freeway. As I couldn't log on, I rang up to get the mini on the database. Conversation went like this.

"Hello Citylink, I can't log on to add a vehicle to my account."
"Certainly sir, I will reset your password, and I can update your car details as well."
"Thank you madam."
"Password has been reset, now what are the extra car details."
"I have a Morris Mini, registration number xxx.xxx to add to the account."
"I can't find that on our car register sir, what is the name again."
"It's a Morris Mini, registration number xxx.xxx."
"Oh, I can't find that."
"It's just a Morris Mini, that can't be too hard to find on your list of cars, it's an old car."
"Maybe our database doesn't go back that far, I"ll put it in manually, one moment. There you are all done."
"Thank you, goodbye."

Later on I logged into my account to reset the temporary password. When I checked all my cars details, the latest one just added came up like this.

Make : Amaurice.
Model: Mini.

The not too switched on attendant literally typed in what I had said which was "A Morris Mini."
I had a good laugh at this but couldn't be bothered to ring her again, fixed it myself.
Perhaps a bit more training is required.

Reminds me of two adverts in the same edition of the Washington Post in the 1980's. Under For Sale was a Matthew (Massey) Ferguson tractor, and another tractor by the name of Alice (Allis) Chalmers.

When Citylink first opened and we had to get tags for our toys everything went well untill the useage summary turned up.
I read the summary and had a bit of a giggle at the 1978 Ls, that was Dad's daily, had been listed as a " heavy vehicle" so off to the Citylink office in Port Melb with the " heavy mini"

After standing in line for what felt like 1/2 a week a young lass asked what was the problem .....
um well .....seems to me you are over charging us on trip fee's due to you guys believing that my 650kg mini is a heavy vehicle. Could you look into that for me ?
Um sure .... tap tap tap..... Sir ... your tag is correct so there is no problem.

hmmm what makes you say that ? surely an old mini can't be classed as a truck ?
Umm well it comes up as a Leyland and all our Leylands are trucks so wheres the problem?

Miss, would you mind stepping outside into the carpark to see the said Leyland is most defiantly NOT a truck ?
Err umm ....your'e not allowed to park a truck in our carpark !!!

{ 5 mins back and forward getting nowhere }

Young lass finally agrees to sight the " truck"
"oh it's cute :) um well I see your point, I'll fix it in the system, sorry about that.

The mob we have here is GoVia, had it for a while with no problems till they tried to charge us for the trailer we had on the car. It's made from an old tray off a 1 tonner holden. They said it was a ute, sent us picture of it from rear. GOONS!

When I added my Clubman GT to may GoVia account (That is what they call it up here in Qld for the Motorways) the only listing I could add was a Leyland Ute. They don't have any other Leyland listings.

I had similar guff from VicToads trying to get an unreg permit when I first got my mini. I don't think they even had Morris of any sort in their system, and trying Leyland only came up with a truck!

It's sad really, once apron a time mini's were known by everyone. Now all you get is "Oh, isn't it cute........what is it?"

I tried to get my bus/camper insured, I asked a few different companies if they insured a Nissan Citizen but all said no, till the nice lady at NRMA said, "dont you mean a Nissan Civillian?". ............... its insured with them
You'd think I would know what i have. :-)
