Post subject: | Things that should be changed while the engine is out |
Hi all I picked up complete working engine, and was wondering what things are easily replaced while the engine is out but a nag once the engine is in. It's a non s 1275, with 1.5 SU, and LCB. Remote box. Is there anything that's prone to leaking oil? I hate leaking oil. Thanks peeps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Maybe the primary gear seal. Impossible to do in the car without the special tool...but then if it doesn't leak no point pulling it out I suppose. |

Thanks all. It's not a rebuild thread, nor it there anything that needs changing. I could drop the engine in and it'd probably go for years without a problem. It's more that I have it out and I want it back in pronto. If something busts and it's an engine out job, thats fine. I was specifically looking for something that fails regularly, which requires the engine to come out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not sure it's causing problems. Is there a way to check without pulling the radiator off? But if I replace the water pump then it's an easy check I suppose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The primary gear seal is at the clutch end, but if you are refitting your original 'box and primary gear cover, the primary gear seal is set in the large hole in the primary gear cover and is easy to replace once out - used to be orange coloured but now not always. The common leak at the radiator end was the half-moon seal between the gearbox and the front engine bearing cap. But that seal will be replaced when the box and engine are joined. |

The common leak at the radiator end was the timing case cover seal. |
