Ben, 7 ports are just about as good as 8- the #2 and #3 exhaust pulses are 360* apart on the centre port and so don't overlap. 8)

For kazjim and others who are wondering..

Folklore has it that a Datsun 1200 motor is based on a BMC A series but has an 8 port head.
I saw one up close and personal yesterday. YES it has an 8 port head. NO it is no ******' good on an A series- the camshaft, lifters and pushrods are all on the RH side of the block (where BMC should have put them on the A & B series... they finally woke up when they built the C series.)
So, no bloody joy...

Bugger - Oh well, back to the 7-port idea methinks.......

Kev, I'm happy to donate a few castings to the cause ! (small bore, of course !)

Cheers

No worries guys-
If I use a couple of mine it will be easier to get into the workshop without stubbing me toes.. I've got a nice cracked one I'll put in the saw to check out the water jacket layout...sort of an MRI scan using a power hacksaw... :P
