Post subject: | Sunvisors |
Hi. Looking for some information on the sunvisors used in the Australian mini's I know the clubman sunvisors are different from the Mk 1 and the Mk 2. Is there a difference in the Mk 1 and Mk 2 sunviors? and are they like the UK cream crackle type? or are they made in Australia in the 60's and 70's. I understand that the hood lining and the sunvisors are made of different material. A photo of the correct sunvisor would be helpful if someone can help. Cheers |

In this thread, first and third attachments you can see they both list the sun visors as "Ex - UK Grey" viewtopic.php?f=25&t=96010 |

The 1965 Mk1 Cooper S had a swivel sunvisor and a holding clip above the door. Not sure when the change was but probably late 1965 early 1966 they went to the crackle finish "fixed" style. This continued all the way through the Cooper S range. Attachment: 1965 sun visor.jpg Attachment: 1966 - 1971 sunvisor.jpg

The crackle patten is the right one but the colour is unknown to me as cream crackle looks to yellow. I have seen the Grey crackle which is not correct but haven't seen a white or off white crackle patten which looks right. Are the sunvisor's Australian made or did they all come from the UK? |

Sorry I might have not got this right. ![]() After looking at your trim charts I see the sunvisor's are ex UK ![]() |

I think you'll find the correct ones are a light grey, I have a spare one and it looks light grey. In the U.K. The crackle was used for both the headlining and the sun visors so they match - which is what u would expect. In Aust they must have chosen to go with a local headlining but must have decided to just continue using the imported visors - even though they don't really match. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The main giveaway that the sunvisors for the round-nose Mini are UK sourced is the 14E and 24E prefix to their part number. Australian manufactured trim parts would've had a HYA prefix. Perhaps the method of construction with expanded foam internal and welded plastic edging meant is was more cost-effective to import than find a local manufacturer. Headlining was made locally as it was basically just cut off a roll of vinyl and sewn to a pattern. The Clubman parts book shows an Australian part number of HYB1811 for the sunvisor so it seems they were eventually made here, unless there was a bit of "creative accounting" to boost the government's local content percentage. ![]() |
