On a serious note, the proliferation of small groups forming and not always complying with the spirit or requirements of Conditional Registration is a worry and could some day endanger the whole scheme...

The scheme here in Vic is already under a cloud with the number of people not signing their log books and / or using the vehicles for their work and really, all they are doing is saving on full rego. Most of the cars here with historic plates are of no significance and the owners couldn't care less about them. It is being watched very closely. |

Been happening for years The authorities should be targeting the clubs and their level of compliance...as oftentimes, the people running these "clubs" (in name only, sometimes just 5-6 people who know one another!) Blind leading the blind or worse, smarties who know what is required but just disregard the lot...then feed new members with bulldust, half-truths or lies...I have pulled up a few of these people and explained the truth...and they are usually quite surprised... |

It is being watched very closely. not "most"... the shake-up happened a couple of years ago now, the rules tightened up and a bunch of clubs were shut down. It's settled back down again... |

When I say "Most" I mean most of the ones I see on the road around here. There are pensioners left right and centre around here driving their old bashed up corollas around on H plates. They have no interest in their cars, their only interest is saving money on rego so I don't think that is what it was intended for. Todays find! An Isuzu truck delivery fruit to fruit shops. Can agree to disagree Sime...just read the weird and wonderful "club" list on the RMS website...and a lot of these "groups" are just making the rules up as they go along or running with their own interpretation after a cursory look at the regs... |

Yeah, exactly. (not sure how to display image, just the link since I had to change from photobucket!) It is just ridiculous some of the vehicles getting around with club plates. It is not illegal to have a tow truck on club plates. It only becomes illegal if he uses it as a tow truck. (he can actually carry a car on the back as long as it is associated with club activities) I can't see any fruit in the fruit truck. In other words, I can't see if he is actually braking the rules. |

A truck delivering fruit to fruit shops does not qualify for club plates (and that is what it was doing). It is an offence to use a vehicle on club plates (in VIC) for commercial gain. It needs to be registered. The tow truck advertises and is being used for towing services. It is being used for commercial gain. It needs to be registered. Yes, both can be on club plates (over 25 years) but as soon as they are used for commercial gain they are unregistered. $793- fine (for a car, trucks are even more depending on number of axles). The point is, these and all the others (being used for businesses) I see are breaking the law and the more that do it, the greater the chance of the scheme being abolished. Add these to all the club vehicles that are legitimately on club plates that then don't sign their log book to save extra days and the system is looking less appealing to the government. Clubs that do the right thing should be annoyed with clubs that don't because it will be their members that loose out if it gets shut down. |
