Hey,
I'm trying to get some information on which distributor I am needing for a 1971 998cc mini clubman. Have tried called the people from oz.minisport to seek information and he wasn't to helpful. This is after I originally purchased one from minisport.com that lasted me a total of 24 hours.

Any help would be awesome as it has been out of action for a little while and looking for a solution.

In the long run is it going to be more reliable with an electric or sticking with points? Any model numbers/product numbers would be amazing or even if anyone has any for sale. Thanks in advance.

** This post isn't at all putting a bad name towards any mini parts suppliers, i have good experiences throughout but merely just expressing my concern to find a good quality distributor that will be reliable for my little clubman, after a bit of a bad experience.**

Thanks, Aden.

Do you any any tuning specialists in your area who could advise and repair (or whatever is needed) your existing distributor. They aren't consumable.

Personally I'd rather use electronic ignition as it doesn't need any maintenance. I think the Australian 1971 model would have been fitted with a 29D distributor?? but these are harder to get parts for now. The 45D was fitted to later 998 engines (although make sure you get a pre-A+ unit). You will need to make sure the timing advance is suited to a 998 engine.

As above, there isn't really much to break that can't be fixed with some spare parts and time. What's wrong with the broken one?

minisport.com and oz.minisport are UK based sellers, so might not be as helpful on the Aussie made cars as the Aussie shops in Winabbey's link.

The correct distributor would be a Lucas 29D4 - AYG1056 but if you are to use it, I'm with timmy201, fit it with an electronic module.

A 1971 Clubman would have had a 29D dizzy in it.
However it would have been a 1098, not 998.
If the engine number starts with 99H it is an imported 998 from a later car, 1975-78. In which case it would have had a 45D distributor. These are easier to get parts for than the old 29D.

There was no 1971 998 clubman.

Probably a later model engine which I think from memory used a 45D non vacume advance dizzy.

Doesn't really matter to much about which mini distributed you use as long as its set up correctly

Edit: doc beat me to it
