Fitting a new fuel pump to the CS in your opinion which is the best to buy ? there are some for less than $100.

AUF214 solid state instead of points

AUF214 PUMP ? MK?

AUF214 is the original pump. The solid state electronics will fix the points issues.

BTDT... solid state electronics (even brand new ones) can't be trouble shot or repaired.

On the other hand, points will only last 50 years or so....

I agree. They are noisy but mounted on a Mini centre exhaust mount you can't hear it with motor running.
They seem to run forever, but a spare is inexpensive if you feel the need.

If it's a Cooper or GT I'd keep it original, on anything else I would fit something more reliable. Like a Facet.

Depends on if you want to use non standard parts or not, I'm sure there are hundreds of alternatives available some good some bad, but if you just want to bolt something on that fits without making brackets and messing about with fuel pipe runs then why not use the original style pump?

Then I would suggest fitting the original engine driven pump. If you wanted to fit an electric one then at least with the SU pump you could buy the brackets to fit it in the Standard location of the earlier cars?

I have one of each, and the one with the electric fuel pump has it mounted in the position that an SU pump would be, using the exact same bracketry and a cotton reel for isolation. The only reason why I'm using a mechanical pump on the other is that I've been able to acquire and install a new diaphragm. Each to his own, eh?

I think from his post history and the original post its a 1970 CS (Cooper S).
I would stick with the original style electric S.U pump if it is an S, if not whatever is easily accessible as nothing parts wise these days lasts forever!

Also will pump at the correct pressure and volume , having been a victim of an alternative pump believe me when I put the AUF214EN on it worked and I have been able to enjoy my car worry free and not wondering when it was going to stop .
