Hi all

I bought some nolathane bushes to rebuild a steering rack.
The inside dimension is to big for the 2 different racks I am rebuilding a 73 elf and a 78 mk4 mini
Has anyone else had this problem?
Did the aussie rack have a bigger shaft through it?

Can anyone help?

The Australian rack (post 1964 or so) is a shortened version of the locally produced Cam Gears Morris 1100/ADO16 rack. The internals are much bigger than the UK racks, and they tend to live a fair bit longer. No parts are available to rebuild the UK racks as far as I know, they are pretty much a throwaway item.

Edit: This might be what you are after?

Just a quick note, the Australian Mini rack is based on the Australian Morris 1100 rack which is actually thicker and stronger than the English 1100 rack.
A lot of people are using the Australian rack bush in UK 1100 racks but it is actually a touch loose, the Australian one is 7/8" and the English one is 13/16".

There is a warning note in the workshop manual not to mix and match parts especially the rod ends and ball housings because of the "dangerously low contact area"...

The English Mini rack is totally different.

Thanks for your help guys. I wondered if this may be the issue.
I was told that the mini rack was 22mm in dia......not 22.6 as in the nolathane bush.
Guess I have wasted my money.
I have had to buy bushes from a local mini supplier.
Happy christmas
